In addition to the standard lower division differential equations course required of all UCLA math minors, I have taken classes in systems of linear differential equations and ordinary differential equations, earning a B+ and an A respectively. Moreover, as differential equations are indispensable tools for the mathematical description of physical phenomena, I have ample practice in their use through my Physics studies.
During my undergraduate work at UCLA, I took both an honors-level lower division course on linear algebra as well as an upper division proof-based linear algebra course and earned a B+ and A respectively. Moreover, since that time, I have great familiarity with applying linear algebra through my studies in quantum mechanics. Since the state of a quantum system is described by a vector in a Hilbert space and physical observables are represented by self-adjoint operators on this space, linear algebra is the natural language of quantum mechanics.
