Hello! I am graduating in June and am looking to tutor in chemistry, and biology. I attend the University of California, Irvine and am majoring in Developmental and Cell Biology with a minor in Earth and Atmospheric Science. My career goal is to become a physician hopefully in the pediatric department.
I have never tutored in any organized manner or through a website, however, I have tutored many friends and colleagues who have asked for it. I feel that the best way to learn anything new is through repetition. I like to go through some examples first where I show my student how these steps are done, what is going on, and more importantly WHY it is that I am doing whatever step I am doing in a problem. I feel that most people get the "what", and the "how", but it's the "why" part that ensure that the understanding of the topic at hand is sufficient. I go through examples heavily at first, but I then turn the table on my student, and give them a lot of questions to do on their own or even have them walk me through a couple of examples so I can see if they understand the material enough to teach it. If they can teach it, they know it. I am looking forward to working with all of you and hopefully you will gain a very fun, enlightening experience through this tutoring, and that A+!!!
I am majoring in biology, and I am extremely interested in this topic. Biology is a very fun subject for me and though it may be tough at times, I think it is interesting once you understand how everything is working. With biology you have to take a more interactive, and applicable approach so that the topics seem relevant to the student. Thus when tutoring, I will do my best to engage the student in the topic and not just make them memorize.
This subject is one of my favorites, and I had to take it in school as a degree requirement as well as a medical school requirement. When it comes to chemistry, practicing is always the best way to go! There are so many problems and methods in chemistry, but breaking them down and discussing why certain things are happening are what I feel will work best with the learning material. I will ensure the student gets more than their fair share of problems so that they get comfortable with the methods being learned in the class.
