Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I hope I am a good fit for your student's academic needs!
About me:
My name is Janet, and I am a highly qualified teacher with over 7 years of teaching experience. I’ve taught regular classes and worked with small groups of special needs students, the gifted, and EL students. I’ve been working with students who are too ill to temporarily attend their neighborhood schools for the past four years. In addition, I also provide quality in-home tutoring services to students in Orange County.
I am a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA (Cal Poly Pomona) with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. I currently hold two teaching credentials: a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, K-12 and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Biology. I do speak and understand some Korean. I am highly organized, energetic, and ready to help your student succeed!
What I can teach:
I can teach all elementary school subjects and all middle school subjects. At the high school level, I can teach English, Pre-Algebra, Transitional Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, History, American Government, Biology, General Science and Life Science. Contact me about your student’s particular needs!
How this works:
I can meet you at your home and we can discuss and pin-point the academic areas your student needs the most help. By taking a look at your student's information on Parent Portal or at previous report cards/ progress reports and old tests/assignments, I can better determine how to best support your student. After we set a schedule, we will then use their homework and textbooks as a guide to increase your student's understanding and retention in their academic subjects. Goal-setting skills, study skills, organizational skills, and pep talks will be incorporated into our lessons so that your student will become a more independent, responsible, and confident student.
I recommend at least a minimum of twice a week sessions for an hour per session up to four times a week for an hour and a half per session maximum. I find that less than 2 hours per week to be ineffective in improving a student's grades and more than 6 hours per week to be overwhelming for most students.
With our combined efforts, I am positive that we can increase your student's ability to earn better grades by two grades. I've helped students earning C's and D's on their own to earning A's and B's under my guidance. As long as you and your student are willing to meet me halfway, we can go far academically. Together, we can help your student become more successful and confident!
All materials such as paper, pencils, calculator, erasers, etc. needed for studying and completing assignments and projects must be provided by the parents.
I typically only work with students when school is in session. I do not work with students during holidays or other days when students do not attend school. Please let me know in advance if you would like me to come and work with your student on those days so we can work out an arrangement.
Please note that I charge by the hour. If you chose to end the session early for whatever reason without giving me 8 hours notice, I will charge for the entire hour. Also, I do not usually charge a cancellation fee if you contact me 8 hours before our session is to occur but cancellations with less than 8 hours notice will be charged half of a regular tutoring session. Students and parents who habitually cancel sessions will be dropped from my tutoring roster. Thank you for your understanding!
