I studied nuclear physics in Cuba for 4 years, graduated with a B.S. in physics from the University of Costa Rica and I am currently in the last year of a PhD in physical chemistry from UCI. Living, studying and tutoring in 3 countries allows me to create the right environment where my students thrive.

I have taught in a classroom every level of math from 5th grade to high school and every level of physics up to college. I have helped students improve their grades through private tutoring for the last 7 years, including college level math and physics. I worked as an instructor at Astrocamp, a science camp where students learn through hands on experiments. After 6 months, I was promoted to supervisor, where I then helped the instructors improve their teaching skills.

My life experiences give me a unique vantage point. I can explain abstract concepts many different ways, until my students understand. I have explained difficult concepts to the widest range of students, from communist Cuba, to rural Costa Rica to Southern California students.

Algebra 1

I taught algebra 1 for three years in Costa Rica. I have helped many students throughout the years with private lessons. I am currently in the 5th year of my PhD in physical chemistry. I have the real world experience of how algebra is used and the classroom experience on how to convey the concepts.

Algebra 2

When I was in the nuclear physics program, I took two semesters of algebra. I also taught algebra 2 for three years in Costa Rica and have helped many students through private lessons. I am currently in the 5th year of my PhD in physical chemistry. Knowing applications of algebra in real research allows me to bring life to abstract concepts. My teaching background allows me to identify problematic areas and explain them with clarity.

Calculus

While I was studying nuclear physics in Cuba I took the same calculus as the mathematicians. I learned many of the things I apply today as a PhD student at UCI. I have helped some students through private lessons. My experiences in research and teaching allow me to provide real world meaning to abstract concepts.

Chemistry

I am in the 5th year of a PhD in physical chemistry at UCI. I have TAed at the college level and helped students through private tutoring. My deep grasp of complex scientific concepts, allows me to explain them with real world examples. In my tutoring sessions you will learn chemistry because it makes sense, with minimum memorization.


Geometry

Geometry is one of my favorite subjects. I taught it for 3 years in Costa Rica and have helped many students throughout the years. Today I still use it in my research as a Ph.D student at UCI.

Physics

I taught physics in high school for 3 years in Costa Rica. I also TAed for 1 year at the college level. I am currently in the 5th year of my PhD in physical chemistry at UCI, where I do cutting edge research. I have a holistic understanding of physics, how it is used in the real world and how to effectively teach it.

Precalculus

While I was studying nuclear physics in Cuba I took a semester in complex functions and 2 semesters on algebra, where I learned many of the things I apply today as a PhD student at UCI. I taught pre-calculus in a classroom for 3 years. I have helped many students through private lessons. Because I do cutting edge research, I know what concepts are important and how to think about them. This allows me to provide real life examples that will make abstract ideas become clear.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker doing my PhD at UCI. I have worked as a teacher for the sciences but the principles of teaching carry over. I have also studied German and Mandarin so I understand how languages are learned.

Trigonometry

I have enjoyed solving trigonometry problems since I was in high school. I taught it for 3 years in Costa Rica and have helped many students throughout the years. Today, I still use it in my research as a Ph.D student at UCI.
