I am a professor of chemistry and organic chemistry with 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I am currently an Adjunct Prof. at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA and am interested in tutoring general or organic chemistry part-time. I received my undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry from the University of Redlands in Redlands, CA, and I received my graduate degrees (MS, PhD) from Yale University in New Haven, CT.
As an undergraduate, I tutored general and organic chemistry for three years as an individual and group-based tutor. In 2005 (at the end of my junior year) I was named Tutor of the Year by University of Redlands Tutoring Center. I continued to pursue my love of teaching in graduate school, teaching organic chemistry as a Teaching Fellow and tutor at Yale's Center for Science and Quantitative Reasoning. In the four years I served as a tutor, I was nominated for the University's Graduate Teaching Prize three times.
Organic chemistry is notoriously a very difficult subject for young scientists as it is traditionally revered as heavy on memorization and excruciating in its complexity. It is also a very different style of chemistry compared to most others, in that it is much more qualitative than quantitative. As a tutor, I teach organizational techniques that simplify memorization tasks, and emphasize thinking in the "big picture" to avoid getting bogged down in minutia. Students often come to discover that mastering just a handful of fundamental concepts can make learning large volumes of material fairly painless. In fact, the rules of chemistry are very simple. Once you master those rules, any problem, no matter how complicated, becomes trivial.
I am 30 years old and come from a family of educators. I am also patient with students and do my best to promote a relaxed, productive, and respectful working relationship. Additionally I am willing to take on students who are struggling or looking to get ahead in their studies.
I am currently a professor of chemistry at Vanguard University. I have been teaching and tutoring chemistry for 9 years and enjoy it immensely. I hold a MS/PhD in chemistry from Yale University and a double BS (biology+chemistry) from the University of Redlands.

My approach to organic chemistry focuses on developing intuition instead of relying on memorization, which can often be so daunting to students. Organic chemistry is fun! You just need the right approach!
