For fifteen years I have been teaching elementary students (mostly 4th & 5th grade) through LAUSD. As an elementary teacher I teach all subject areas, but my areas of expertise are language arts (writing, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary), math, history/social studies and test prep. I also have some experience with middle/senior high school students as both a tutor and mentor.

In addition I am an alumni of USC, where I studied Political Science and Education. I have a BA in Political Science and am working towards my graduate degree in Educational Administration. I received my teaching credential from CSUDH.

In order to adequately prepare for a standardized test, a student needs to do more than just memorize a list of facts and theories; they must use proven methods and strategies that will help ensure success on a test, as well as give the test taker more confidence during the test, which is half the battle. I have used these test taking strategies to great success with my students as well as in my own educational endeavors.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

Spencer

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fully credentialed elementary school teacher. I have been teaching for LAUSD for over 15 years. I have taught all grade levels (K-6) at various schools within those years, mostly at Normandie Ave. Elementary. My credential is on file at LAUSD. As an elementary school teacher, I am competent in all subject areas.

Film

I am an independent filmmaker. I studied both film production as well as film history/appreciation at USC. I also took film classes at both PCC (Pasadena) and CSU Long Beach. I have produced, directed, written, edited numerous short films, videos, and PSAs. I have an extensive film/cinema knowledge and background. I have worked/trained with both digital and film media.

Phonics

As an elementary school teacher, particularly when working with students K - 3, part of your daily routine is going through the phonics sounds, called "sound-spelling cards." Phonemic awareness is an intrinsic part of the foundation of early education. It is the building block of how students spell, write and use words. It is the foundation of vocabulary and speech development. I am fully credentialed and have taught elementary, including K - 3 for over 15 years.

Social Studies

In addition to being a fully credentialed teacher for over 15 years with LAUSD. My credential is on file with LAUSD, and I received my credential through CSUDH, I am a Political Science major and got my BA in Poli Sci from USC.

As an elementary school teacher, particularly in 4th/5th grade, Social Studies (history) is a key part of their education.

Video Production

I am an independent film/video producer. I studied film/video production at USC, PCC (Pasadena) and CSU Long Beach. I have worked on in a production capacity on a number of short films, videos, PSAs and EPKs.
