is my native language
and I attended a French elementary and middle school.
I have about 3 years of tutoring French to grades 6-12. I completed Level I of a Career Switcher Program and took extensive courses on Theories of Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction, Classroom Management, Foreign Languages Methods, and Lesson Methods. I was a French Middle School Teacher at a middle school in Norfolk, Virginia, for 3 months and completed an Internship at Fairfax High-school and taught a 9th Grade level class using the Boss-Secretary approach in which students interacted with each other. I also observed an advanced French class level IV and graded some papers following the school’s guidelines and grading system.
Furthermore, Boss-Secretary and Round Robin Methods are effective methods which create a fun-learning environment. The Boss-Secretary Teaching Strategy consists of the Boss, the student who is talking about a topic and the Secretary is the one who listens and takes notes. This strategy allowed my students to participate in their own learning and encouraged collaboration as well as self-motivation. I also created lesson plans that will give students to interact with their classmates in French and improve their speaking, listening and reading
skills in French. The Round Robin Teaching Strategy consists of several teams with a member of a team who is in charge of writing
ideas from other members on a piece of paper, passing it to the left of the table. Then the teacher after 90 seconds will give the signal to stop and then the scriber will read out loud the most creative or practical ideas. It is a way encouraging students to participate in their own learning and boost their self-esteem.
Moreover, some of the teaching methods I intend on using when I tutor French is to use 21st Century technology such as the Internet
, live broadcasts on French radio stations to enhance listening and speaking of students. I will also use the school textbook following the school curriculum to improve my students’ grammar
As far as my ESOL
students, I will use a similar approach and the school textbook with visuals and teach my students basic vocabulary and greetings as English
is not their first language. I was born and raised in France, then moved to the US and attended an American high-school and college. Also, I was an ESOL student for a year when I first moved to the US from France so I can relate to my ESOL students.
