Hey everyone!

I'm Julia and I have a passion for helping students in need succeed! I recently graduated from UCLA with a degree in Neuroscience and an associates degree in chemistry. I personally believe that all students who seek outside help and other resources to gain knowledge are some of the brightest and smartest students around. With outside help you gain a deeper understanding of the material and a new perspective that can come in handy on the big test day or just daily studying.

As for my tutoring specialties, my subjects include chemistry, biology, English (reading, writing, vocabulary), and algebraic courses; algebra 1, pre algebra, & intermediate college algebra. I approach learning in a holistic way, my main goal is to not only answer questions about the course material, but also improve a students independent study skills. Similar to the famous quote, "You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day or teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime," applies to my tutoring method.

During my tutoring sessions, I enjoy using my neuroscience degree to create solutions that help my students better memorize the material and learn it efficiently. Thereby, the tutoring I offer becomes more personalized to their needs and best learning style. Also, I offer helpful brainy tips and tricks that give students an edge up in preparing for those big test days.

I understand that too much academic studying can become tiring...I offer sewing classes for those looking to start a fun and creative hobby! A bit of a "brain break!" Beginners welcome and no sewing machine is required; although it is preferred. I have experience in teaching youth sewing classes and how to use a sewing machine in a safe, fun way.

Chemistry

I am currently tutoring multiple students in chemistry, and each student's grade has improved. Academically, I have studied this subject throughout college, and I have my associate's degree in chemistry.

Sewing

In high school, I completed an introductory sewing class that taught the basics of sewing including projects such as sewing pillows, purses, pockets, zippers, and all needed stitches. In addition, I taught youth sewing classes at a well known sewing center in Anaheim to children age 5-12 yrs. Since then I have continued sewing and have had a side business sewing and selling my purses. Taken in total, I have been sewing for more than 7 years and love being creative with fun projects that are instructional and also provide the student with a fun and functional item.

Study Skills

For years, I have given guidance to friends, family, classmates, and students of mine on how to best approach a subject and develop more efficient/effective study skills.

While at university, I spent my time volunteering and mentoring students on how to study, specifically balancing science, math, and language classes (the 3 core classes). During that time, I also balanced multiple extracurricular activities, researched in a lab, had a part time job, and maintained my GPA at UCLA.

Therefore, I am able to share not only my personal successes with students to enrich their study habits, but also know that it truly works!

University of California Los Angeles (Neuroscience)

Great, interactive tutor who gets impressive results. Julia has only been working with my son, who's a Sophomore, a short time but we've already seen significant improvement in his understanding of chemistry and his overall grade in the class. She makes learning the material engaging and fun which keeps my son interested. She's punctual, responds quickly to texts and emails, and is always ready to dive in and get started. I would highly recommend her ...
