ACT Reading

The ACT exam is a great representation of a student's ability, but is a broader and more general test. The reading on the ACT is not formulaic, but the skills for scoring well on standardized tests are similar. I have a proven record of scoring high on this test myself, and am skilled at all types of reading.

Elementary Math

I have taught grades 5-10 in Math, covering levels up to Pre-Algebra and Beginning Algebra. I am good at Geometry and spatial-related problem-solving.

I have also completed college-level, beginning Behavioral Statistics (Fullerton College).

Elementary Science

Science has always been a source of fascination and natural interest for me; therefore, I have easily adapted it to my teaching and tutoring. I am familiar with science at levels from early elementary all the way up into basic physics. I am particularly good at explaining conceptual matters of science.

English

My English skills are excellent and my experiences with it are diverse. I have taught English to ESL students (particularly Korean), and understand the tough points well. I am very talented with all forms of writing from creative to technical, and score extremely well on standardized tests. I can help your student on tests as well!

Philosophy

I have a BA in Philosophy from a rigorous program at Biola, a private university. I have studied Metaphysics/Ontology, Epistemology, Ethics, and Logic extensively. My areas of emphasis are philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, meta-ethics, and philosophy of mind.

Psychology

I have studied Psychology extensively enough to have a general understanding of the history of the field, and where it is going with research and other trends. I tutored previously at Fullerton College in Behavioral Statistics. I have also conducted a psychological experiment and research study.

Religion

Religion is a subject in which I have extensive knowledge and experience. I have studied up to Master's level Theology, and have studied religions comparatively for years including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and LDS/Mormonism.

Study Skills

I have taught 5th--12th grades, as well as college levels, in subjects from Math to English. I am an excellent reader and writer. Most importantly and germane to this subject, though, is that I have experience working with autism and other types of spectral and behavioral disorders. Teaching study skills and life skills to students like these requires patience and a different approach than the standard. They can learn a great deal of the same content, but require a more determined plan and approach.

As a college graduate, psychology student, and educator myself, I have much personal experience with the value of strong study skills.

Writing

I am skilled in humanities formats like MLA and Turabian, as well as scientific formats like APA. I write non-fiction and fiction, technical and creative, and have my BA in Philosophy which is widely accepted as one of the highest forms and applications of communication and writing skills.

I have taught writing to students from elementary levels, middle and high school, and even some college levels. I am also experienced with native English-speakers and ESL students.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
