I've been fingerprinted and TB tested and can provide this information upon request.
I have taught preschool, K-12, and ESL(English as Second Language)in adult education over the past 22 years. I've kept in touch with many of my students. One of my first students in preschool has graduated high school and begun college.
I love teaching and tutoring so much that I can't think of anything else I'd much rather be doing. I've shared this with many of my former students year after year. "If you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life." -Confucious- This is exactly how I feel about what I do.
In the current state of education, many teachers are overwhelmed by their overcrowded classrooms due to continued employee cuts to balance the state's budget. If you feel your child is not getting the attention he/she is due then you have either sat inside the classroom, or have listened to your own frustrated child.
I am available to assist you and your child in getting the attention that is essential to feel confident and empowered by the learning he/she deserves. I am extremely patient, professional, and have witnessed growth and progress firsthand throughout my years. I work with all ages.
Thank you for taking the time to invest in your education. Lisa Marie G.
I have had over 20 years of experience in the classroom. There have been students in my classroom who have had physical disabilities, ADD, ADHD, Autism, Bipolar, and other challenges. Some showed the outward signs of their challenges, others blended in. Some were diagnosed, others were not but showed signs. Some were on medications, others were not.
I have used special accommodations such as sitting closer to the front of the classroom, extra time on tests, larger print tests, colored paper and colored tab organizers, etc. in my classroom. Some students went to speech and language teachers, additional small group, and one-on-one classes for part of the day.
I have always believed in mainstreaming /or inclusion of a special needs student into the regular education classes. One of my best friends in high school was in a wheel chair. I pushed her from our regular ed English class to her special ed class. She attended this class only part of the day. We ran into each other in college. She moved around the campus well with out the assistance of another in her new electric wheelchair. Today she is married, has her own business, and a son.
I took and passed the NTE(National Teacher's Exam) and the CBEST(California Basic Essential Skills Test). I've also taught Art and Art History Classes.
I remember when I took Art History in college. It was quite easy to appreciate the different types of art when you learn about all the meaning and symbolism within them. We took field trips to the LACM(Los Angeles County Museum of Art). It was much more interesting to see the actual art in 3D that we had been studying out of a book. The teachers that I've had made art so interesting that you could not help but appreciate it so much more afterward.
The CBEST(the California Basic Essential Skills Test) is a test with e few different parts that I had to pass in order to substitute teach. I remember that I studied for CBEST preparation class before to be better prepared. The CBEST was the longest test I'd ever taken.
Almost every school district that I've wanted to substitute teach at required proof of passage of this test.
I have worked with K-6 grades since 1990. I have a current California Clear Multiple Subjects Credential. I have been an aide, a substitute teacher, a part-time teacher, and a contracted full-time teacher in the area of K-6 grades.
I have taught ELD(English Language Development) in the K-6 classes since 1988. I obtained my first job because of my bilingual/ biliterate abilities and experiences in the early 1990's. The school district hired me on an 'Emergency Bilingual Teaching Credential' my first year of teaching. Soon thereafter I earned my California Preliminary Teaching Credential.
I have taught ESL(English as a Second Language) to adults since 2001 and participated in several workshops throughout this time.
I've directed and taught both the GED Preparation classes and the high school subjects classes from 1996 to 2006 through Ranch Santiago Community College District's Continuing Adult Education Program. We've partnered with local Orange County High School Districts to achieve the best possible outcome for the students. I continue to assist adults in obtaining their diploma in order to meet employment requirements and/or to move to a higher position/pay bracket. I discover where the student is struggling and go from there so as not to waste time. I check and recheck the student's progress. There are 5 separate GED Tests that can be taken at different times. There is also an opportunity to re-take tests not passed.
I have taken several classes on the basics of general computer literacy. I have taken these classes before and while teaching my own students the basic skills necessary to feel comfortable using the computer and educational programs, search engines, etc.
New computer information and advances are constantly changing. It's necessary to keep on top of the latest computer trend and programs no matter what our age.
I attended Catholic elementary and high schools. I have taken quite a few years of religion classes as a student.
I've also been a religious education teacher and taught K-6th grade communion and 9th grade confirmation classes. I have also been a lector for several years. I am registered with the Diocese of Orange and have a Safe Environment Training Certificate.
I have taken 8 years of Spanish classes, not including private tutoring and workshops. I received an Emergency Bilingual Teaching Credential along with my first job due to my skills. Later I taught Spanish to both children and adults. Now I can say I speak Spanish, or 'Hablo espanol!'
I have taught a high school study skills class. It is one of the most important classes to begin the year with. It's the basis to be successful in all of the other classes.
I've also been a student of study skills classes in both high school and college. These classes have helped me get through the other classes more successfully and with much more ease and confidence.
Wonderful tutor! — There was no way for my stepson to finish Spanish homework and study for the finals without Lisa! Even though it was an urgent request, she made her time to come to our house to help him and he got A on his oral presentation! Thank you Lisa. You definitely helped him! ...
