Hello everyone! My name is Ms. B. and I have been teaching for almost eight years. I used to teach elementary school for five and a half years, and now I currently teach high school. In elementary school, I began teaching fifth grade for a few years, and then I taught third grade. I taught all subjects in each of those grade levels. I currently teach high school French I, II, and III. I just recently graduated with my Master's degree in education, and I am looking for possible tutoring opportunities this summer. Elementary (K-6th)

My teacher certification from the state of Virginia is K-6. Before coming to California, I used to teach 3rd grade self-contained and 5th grade self-contained. I currently now teach high school, although I love working with younger children when I get the chance!

Phonics

I taught 3rd grade phonics in elementary school. Each student had a phonics workbook. We discussed multi-syllable words, phonemes, and graphemes. I also showed the students how to use their knowledge of phonics to decode unknown words. I also was given many phonics strategies in a graduate level class I took. During that class, we also got to practice our phonics strategies with elementary-aged children.

Study Skills

At the high school level, I taught a study skills class for freshmen. The students learned how to first keep themselves organized and on top of their school work. We also discussed how to minimize distractions to focus on their study time. The students learned the importance of time management. We also discussed a variety of ways to study including the use of notecards, highlighting important information, etc.

Volleyball

I was a starter for the volleyball team in high school. I also used to teach volleyball to middle school-aged children at a camp in the summer time.
