My name is Eleanor. I specialize in writing, reading and study skills for students from elementary school through college. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I can cure the homework BLAHS. I can change a student's "I don't want to" or "I can't do this" to "I've already got it done. It was easy." I can make homework both fun and exacting. I can teach students study skills to use all the way from pre-school to the last period on the last page of their college thesis! I am a friendly person who actually enjoyed college, was a perfectionist in business and teaching, and have taught my own 3 children how much fun reading, writing, and good study skills can be.
I have extensive academic and real world experience with the written word. I have a Master's Degree in Comparative Literature, and a Bachelor's Degree in English. These degrees entailed years of reading, analyzing and writing about literature. My master's thesis won an award in the thesis of the year category at my university. I graduated with a B.A. Magna cum Laude and an M.A. Summa cum Laude.
Thereafter, I spent nearly 25 years writing legal documents as a paralegal, and I have spent the past 11 years as a teaching assistant at our local elementary schools, building students' reading and writing skills one-to-one. I know what teachers want. I know what state guidelines require. I also have years of experience utilizing homework study skill techniques with my own 3 children, now in elementary and high school. I have taken numerous studies skills classes, and I am qualified to train others in this field.
I can teach your child to write clear, concise research-based papers, personal opinion essays, and creative narrative, all within MLA guidelines. Reading comprehension is a particular specialty. I have coached my own three children through school, and my eldest through our local gifted student program. He is now an honors student headed for law school. I have truly enjoyed teaching children to read and write, both at school and at home. I teach them to think critically and to express themselves on paper, using sophisticated writing techniques and their own unique personalities as tools. I am confident that I can teach your child to read thoughtfully and to write well.
Children always respond well to me. I know how to speak their language, and to keep them interested in what they need to accomplish. I make sure that they learn to do all of this by themselves, with a firm foundation in spelling, grammar, vocabulary, organized ideas, research citations and proofreading. I know how to make work fun and precise at the same time, creating a lifelong positive attitude toward classwork and homework.
I have also worked extensively with students who have A.D.D., with substantial study skill and focus problems. I can easily teach both students and parents the simple but consistent steps to overcome this homework roadblock, to get the work done efficiently and stress-free, to allow for more relaxing family time in the evenings, which is so important for these families.
I also have a great deal of experience with high school and college homework "overload", and the simple efficiency tricks to master time management, a skill which will follow a student into the workplace.
