As a classroom teacher (teaching first grade), I taught a few students with ADHD. These students required specialized motivation such as fun sticker charts, hands-on lessons, and short breaks. I also tutored a variety of ADHD students as a tutor at The Learning Curve. I made sure to provide these students with plenty of variety and choice when it came to their lessons.
As part of my credential program, I passed the CSET exam, which measured my knowledge in all major subjects, including History/Social Studies.
As a student teacher in a fourth grade classroom at Colonial Acres Elementary, in San Lorenzo, I worked closely with a student who had Aspergers. Since students with Aspergers have trouble identifying social cues, I helped one boy make sense of the culture in his classroom while tapping in to his love of animals.
As a substitute teacher with several school districts, I often encountered students with varying degrees of Autism. These students need patience and sensitivity to their interests, both of which come naturally to me. I capitalize on these students' strengths and interests in order to earn their cooperation and give them ample rest time.
As a dedicated member of my church, Halcyon Baptist, I have taught as a substitute in the preschool class, counseled teen girls, and currently teach an adult small group called Club 33 every other Sunday. I am becoming quite well-versed in the Bible and am a deeply committed Christian.
I passed the CBEST test myself. I have a lifetime CBEST card, and am a credentialed teacher. I also graduated from a year-long elementary teaching program from CSU East Bay with a GPA of 4.0. I have tutored adults (many of them new to the English language) at the Chabot College WRAC Center from 2001 through 2004.
I completed an accredited teaching program and earned my Multiple Subjects credential, in 2006, from California State University, East Bay. Additionally, I earned several units towards a Masters in Education from that same university. Aside from teaching 1st Grade at Tyrrell Elementary for a year, I have also tutored grades K-8, one-on-one or in groups, for over five different companies, for several years.
I taught science as a first grade teacher, and am generally well-versed in the subject.
I have been tutoring students from kindergarten through college in English with companies such as Sylvan Learning, The Learning Curve, Mobile Minds, Reading Partners, and Super Stars Literacy. I have also tutored college students at Chabot College.
As part of my credential program, I took a class in English as a Second Language. I also tutored English learners at the college level from 2001-2004. I am authorized to teach English language learners (ELLs), according to my teaching credential, and have taught at some very culturally diverse schools including Tyrrell (in Hayward) and East Oakland Pride. Finally, I have also written test preparation material for high school ELLs for a private company in San Jose, CA.
I have been using the computer for over 15 years; I am self-taught. I've also taken a variety of advanced computer classes by the Community College of San Mateo (online).
I enjoy studying various places and their locations. Ialso passed the CSET subject exam as part of my credential program.

As part of my credential program at CSU East Bay, I passed the RICA examination, which tested my ability to teach reading, including phonics. As far as my experience goes, I taught full-time first grade for one year, which included the subject of phonics. I also have tutored phonics for five private companies, including Sylvan Learning.
I was Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper; a staff writer for my college paper, The Spectator. I am currently Editor for Imitation Fruit, an online literary journal.
Aside from earning my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University, I have also taken a variety of advanced Educational Psychology classes as part of my credential and Masters programs at CSU East Bay. I am a passionate student and voracious reader of all things psychology.
I've been teaching reading for over 10 years. My latest stint included three semesters with Sylvan Learning, but I've also worked for Super Stars Literacy, Mobile Minds, Reading Partners, The Learning Curve, and Chabot College. I taught first grade reading, as a full-time teacher, for one year, and continue to tutor reading on my own.

Aside from being a credentialed teacher, I have won several academic awards for my writing while in school, have served as Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper, have written articles as part of my college newspaper staff, and currently serve as an editor for Imitation Fruit (an online literary journal: imitationfruit.com). As a first grade teacher, I taught Writer's Workshop, and as a Chabot College writing tutor, I helped adults revise their essays.
