While I have held several jobs over the years, I always find myself teaching others regardless of what the job is! When I started at Chabot College I was asked almost immediately to be part of the tutoring program where I earned Outstanding Tutor of the Year award while completing my Accounting Degree with Highest Honors and I have always been very comfortable with Math and Accounting.
I recently tutored English with Hayward's Literacy Plus Program, and have worked with primary school groups on developing their Elementary Math basics and Prealgebra Skills. I enjoy helping develop a student's tool box of problem solving skills so that the student will grow into a better critical thinker.

I tutored several business related subjects formally at Chabot College where I earned an Outstanding Tutor of the Year Award. I am most comfortable with Financial Accounting. While completing my degree in Accounting with Honors I found that a solid grasp of the Fundamental Accounting Equation and T-accounts make a huge difference in understanding everything else that is built upon these concepts.
Accounting can be daunting, but I will make it come to life for you! I prefer individual tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to bring all the tools to the table to help a student learn.
As I mentioned in my qualifications for pre-algebra, this is when the math world becomes more abstract. It is easy for students to become disconnected because there are so many new concepts to work with. I will not let that happen! There are so many ways to learn algebra, and personal tutoring allows me to bring all the tools to the table. I will show each student that I work with all the techniques for problem solving that I know, as well as find and engage whichever learning modes (hearing, writing, or reading) work best for them. Ultimately, my goal is to have the student not just memorize formulas, but truly understand where those formulas came from and understand at least one new concept each time we get together which will happen when the student enjoys the learning process.
Even though I have completed Math courses through Calculus, it always came back to Elementary Math. When I took Calculus, I found that I consistently had to rely on my Elementary Math skills.
My wife and I were taking a course in Observational Astronomy at a local college, and I noticed a poster on the wall that listed all the careers that required competency with Elementary Math. I
found that every career you can think of was listed! I want to get that message across to all my current and future students.
I have been a martial arts student and instructor for 10 years. The first 3 years as a student and then becoming an instructor for the last 7 earning my Black Belt in the 4th year. The style I studied was a combative style that was flowing and highly adaptive to the environment. It is an offshoot of Ed P.'s Kenpo Karate which has been modified significantly several times. My focus will be on the student’s preference; whether it is self-defense moves or focusing on Kata (forms) with an emphasis on movement and breathing.
