Bar Exam

I'm a former lawyer. I was a top-20 law school graduate, and I passed the California bar exam on my first try.

Chess

I joined the United States Chess Federation in September, 1984, and was first rated in the January, 1985 rating supplement. In March, 1986 (age 17), I was officially rated a USCF expert. Although I have largely given up serious chess for serious bridge, I still play casually, and my USCF rating is over 2100 (Expert level). I have had numerous students over the years, and can assess your weaknesses and shore them up, or we can work on particular areas you wish to improve on, such as endgame technique, building an opening repertoire, attack, strategy, etc.

Public Speaking

I am a Toastmaster (international organization for public speakers), and an attorney and a former standup comic - two professions for which public speaking skills are a must. Whatever your needs are with respect to public speaking, I can help you meet your goals.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
