Over the past 3 years, I have worked as a tutor for multiple upper and lower division Biology courses at UCSD including, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (Fall 2008), Biology: Multicellular Life (Summer 2009), Structural Biochemistry (Fall 2009), Mammalian Physiology II (Spring and Fall 2010), and Endocrinology (Spring and Summer 2011).
My responsibilities included attending meetings with the Professor, working as a team with other Teaching Assistants, grading exams and quizzes, creating test questions, conducting review sessions for exams and proctoring exams. I would also lead weakly discussion sections, in which I would work directly with groups of about 20 undergraduate students to provide them with weekly instruction and review on course material, worksheets, and weekly quizzes.
What began as an interest in studying Science in my early years of college developed into a passion for teaching Science! I was so interested in the subject that I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Biology. This graduate program gave me the opportunity to dedicate 2 years to Biology research. This experience has given me an excellent array of knowledge, practical skills, scientific analytic abilities and presentation skills.
Overall, through my interactions with professionals and students I have learned that the best learning environment is composed of interactive opportunities, which encourage students to not only learn but also to develop an appreciation for the subject. I hope that I can provide any science or non-science major with insight into just how intellectually stimulating the sciences can be.
