I graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Los Angeles in December 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in physics and a minor in mathematics. I have more than six years of tutoring experience. I worked as a math tutor for a year between high school and college and continued to tutor math and physics throughout my undergraduate career. I continued to work full time as a private tutor after graduating from UCLA before joining the graduate Physics program at University of California, Santa Barbara in Fall 2014. I specialize in tutoring high school and college mathematics, such as geometry, algebra, precalculus, single and multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, as well as AP physics and undergraduate level physics courses.

Teaching math and physics is exciting for me because I am passionate about these subjects and enjoy sharing that passion with my students. I find that many students shy away from the core concepts in math and physics, preferring instead to learn only the specific problems they are assigned. This can result in the student becoming confused when confronted with a new problem. For this reason I first strive to ensure that the student grasps the basic concepts, and I then illustrate the concepts with a variety of examples. Learning in this way leads to a more thorough understanding and gives the student a method for way of thinking through problems that he or she can replicate on exams.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

Differential equations is an integral part of physics, and is thus a topic I deal with on a daily basis in my own research into physics. I took both the basic lower division differential equations class at UCLA and upper division classes in ordinary and partial differential equations. I have tutored many students in differential equations, on topics ranging from solving basic homogenous ODEs to solving more complex PDEs with non-homogenous boundary conditions.
