As I attained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine, I certainly hold a high interest in the way people behave. In particular, I am fascinated by the way in which people communicate with each other. Hence, after receiving my Teaching English
as a Foreign Language
Certificate, I ventured off to Asia to teach English. I have taught English as a foreign language
in South Korea and Hong Kong for almost three years.
During my time in Busan, South Korea, I taught with content-based instruction to help elementary and middle school students build their four basic language skills. I gained teaching experience in test preparation
courses for TOEFL
and iBT. Following that, I moved to Hong Kong to begin working with a younger group. I became the head teacher of a learning center, and began developing primary school-leveled curriculum. Shortly after, I also attained my Read Write Inc. certificate from Oxford University Press. Read Write Inc. is a popular synthetic phonics
-based literacy program. I am qualified to teach this program throughout Hong Kong. The objective of this program is to teach children to read and write accurately and fluently through a range of stories, poetry, plays and non-fiction. In my most recent position, I was given the opportunity to teach speech
classes to children between the ages of five to thirteen. I have prepared students for the English Speaking Board exams, and also the annual speech festival in Hong Kong.
My work experience proves me qualified to help my students reach outstanding academic success.
