I am a retired educator, with extensive experience working with 9th-12th graders. For over 20 years I taught, and counseled, students in an individualized instruction setting, where students are given tutoring and mentoring on a one-to-one basis. I assisted hundred of students realize their goal of obtaining their high school diploma. Many of these students were considered high school dropouts in their regular high school, and they lacked the basic study skills necessary for academic achievement. Through systematic individualized instruction, these students were able to improve their academic skills, complete all course requirements, and pass all required tests needed to graduate.
I am an avid reader. My love of books gave me the desire to become a teacher. I believe that reading is the key to success in any educational endeavor. I specialize in tutoring Writing Skills, as well as Reading, Basic Education, and preparation for the California High School Exit Exam and the GED. It gives me tremendous satisfaction to see students, who thought they could never write, evolve to become writers of great essays.
I have also taught English as a Second Language to adults, and even though I have never taught Spanish in a classroom setting, I am fluent in the Language--I hold a degree in Spanish.
I have high standards, and I'm pretty strict with my students. I give my very best, and I expect my students to do the same: no excuses.
I am flexible with scheduling, but I do not tutor on the weekends. I also have a 24-cancellation policy.
I encourage parent feedback. Students are most successful when parents are involved in their learning.
