I began my studies in History and Political Science at Santa Barbara City College (1988-1991), earned my BA (1994), and my MA (1997) in History from the University of California Santa Barbara.
I have been teaching History of the United States, Latin America, Mexico, and the world since 1997 at the following institutions:
Santa Barbara City College (1997-1999), Ventura College (1999), and Rio Hondo College (2000-present).
I also had ample experience as a tutor and essay exam reader since my student days beginning in 1989, both in group settings, and on a one-to-one basis, so my experience extends beyond the larger classroom and lecture hall.
In my studies, I focused on: US social, political, diplomatic, and cultural history; Modern and early modern European History, laying special emphasis on the 20th century; Latin America, particularly after the national independence movements took hold in 1810; on the histories of the Roman world and China/East Asia; and on the larger world/globe since 1500. Before, during, and after my formal education I have been and continue being an avid reader of material and subjects related to all the above histories. So my knowledge of the subject matter is ample, varied, and up to date.
I am enthusiastic about both my subject matter and by the opportunity to impart and/or clarify it to dedicated individuals who may be needing assistance. I am gentle, patient, and thorough in my interaction with students/tutees. While I take life's unexpected turns and other contingencies, I also have established standards on what is expected of the student/tutee, and what she/he may expect of me as tutor and advisor.
I sincerely look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
