I am a mathematics instructor at a local college and have eight years of tutoring experience as well as seven years of teaching experience. In addition to helping students get better grades, I am interested in helping to really understand the subject matter and the reasons why equations work the way they do. I work with students to make seemingly complicated math become simple and seemingly tedious math become interesting. I have worked with a range of learning differences including ADHD, math anxiety, dyslexia, and lack of confidence.

In addition to being a friendly and patient tutor, I am professional, prompt, and clear. I believe that mastering difficult math is about much more than just obtaining the correct answer. Effective learning involves understanding through discovery. It does little good for me to just give a student an answer; instead we work together to reason our way to the solution. One student may learn best by seeing a concept explained with shapes and diagrams while another learns best by mastering the theorems as they are presented in the book. Individual students have different learning styles, so I aim to tutor in ways that best fit each individual.

I earned my Master's Degree in Mathematics from University of Colorado, Boulder, and my Bachelor's Degree in Physics from Colorado School of Mines. Between Glendale Community College and University of Colorado, I have a combined seven years of university teaching experience in all levels from developmental math to advanced calculus. The students I have tutored in my eight years of tutoring experience range from those just starting out in Prealgebra and needing a little confidence to those mastering the advanced theorems of Calculus II. I always meet students at their current skill levels and build from there.

I believe mathematics is alive with a rich history and a wealth of applications, and this comes through in my tutoring. I enjoy not only the mechanics of solving math problems, but also the philosophy of mathematics and how math applies to physics and engineering. My passion for mathematics is contagious, and I'm thrilled when my former students further pursue mathematics in education or profession.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In addition to tutoring multiple students in Algebra 1, I have taught the equivalent courses College Algebra, Elementary Algebra 1, and Elementary Algebra 2 at the college level. It is important to lay a solid foundation in Algebra 1, and I know all the common student mistakes and how to correct them. A little self-confidence in this class grows in Algebra 2 and Precalculus.

Algebra 2 can seem overwhelming if students didn't get something down correctly in Algebra 1. I help students figure out exactly where they are going wrong and correct the problem. A solid mastery of Algebra 2 builds the self-confidence and skills for Precalculus and even Calculus. In addition to tutoring multiple students in Algebra 2, I have taught the equivalent courses College Algebra, Elementary Algebra 1, and Elementary Algebra 2 at the college level.

I have taught several sections of Calculus I and II at the university level and understand that often the hardest part of calculus is mastering all the algebra! Often times, students have missed something in all classes leading up to calculus, and the calculus ends up confusing. Once the algebra is done correctly, the calculus becomes much more rewarding. I know which subjects to emphasize and generally which concepts teachers tend to test over.
