In my former postion as a Facilitator for Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), I delivered powerful and effective seminars and presentations to Spanish-speaking parents in various low-income/high-need communities on how to help send their children to college. This position necessitated keen insight on curriculum development, as well as effective public speaking and active community involvement.
Furthermore, my work for PIQE allowed me to work as an academic 'coach' for large groups of parents. I interfaced with faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders, providing peer support and linking families with appropriate community resources. I coordinated Parent Nights at local schools, worked as a mentor for parents, and interfaced with teachers and staff. I also organized community marketing events to increase PIQE's visibility throughout the Los Angeles County.
I have taught Speech Communication and English at two career colleges. I was also taught to be an ESL Instructor by the Peace Corps. Additionally, I am a published author of three books. My credentials include a Master's Degree in Counseling and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.
I was trained to be an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor with the Peace Corps. This allowed me to become thoroughly familiar with all of the requirements to be an effective ESL instructor.
I took and passed the GED test some years ago, and I actually enjoyed studying for and taking the test. I would like to help any adult who is studying for the exam and help him or her to pass the test. All it takes is some good study habits and some self-discipline. I can show you how it is done. With my help, you'll have no problem taking and passing the exam.
As a published author of three books, and as someone who had to write two graduate theses, I can definitely help you with the proofreading you need for your paper. I can also assist you with knowing the in's and out's the formatting guidelines of the APA and the MLA. I am confident that you will be pleased with the work and will earn a high grade in your class as a result.
I have a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of La Verne, which has one of the stronger counseling programs in Southern California. I also earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach.
I have tutored many students in Psychology and really enjoy it. My skills include being able to truly break down the information in order to help students digest it more easily. I also make it fun for them, and help them apply the concepts to the "Real World."
My time at regional Toastmasters International clubs taught me the dynamics and the tools with which to provide powerful and dynamic public speaking engagements. I have learned the essence of proper elocution, good body language, posture, and gesticulation.
All of these ingredients are necessary for becoming a polished public speaker. I also did extensive public speaking while publicizing my first book. This was done at college and universities, where all of the methods mentioned above had to be effectively deployed. I therefore wish to pass on this received wisdom to students who wish to perfect their public speaking abilities and skills.
I can train you to read with purpose and intent. College coursework requires a lot of reading, and, with my assistance, I can show you how to pick out only the most important information, saving you time and energy.
I am currently in the Education for Ministry (EFM) program with the University of The South. Therefore, my knowledge of religious studies is strong. I have studied religion for many years and feel that my knowledge base is more than sufficient to tutor in this subject area.
I have the ability to help students in elementary, high school, and college read with the purpose of selecting the most important passages in their reading material. In my tutoring, I demonstrate what I learned when I was pursuing my academic goals, which I achieved. This also involves the usage of time management. Many students are not aware of how time leaks during their study periods. I can help them spot how their time is spent and where their time goes while studying.
I have learned how to read quickly, and with purpose, and how to take effective notes, which capture only the most important aspects of a college lecture. Furthermore, I have also mastered the technique of making priority lists with my college assignments, ordering them from the most to the least important. These study skills allowed me to graduate from CSULB Cum Laude and to go on to earn a Master's degree. I am now able to impart this important set of study skills to college students.
As a published author of three books, I feel confident that I can tutor nearly any student in English. Furthermore, I can help with spelling and grammar, and also with composition style as well as formatting in either APA or MLA formats for college-level term papers. I can also work to help reduce a foreign accent. I really enjoy working with students and have successfully tutored many students in the past.
