Kind, Patient Tutor who will help you learn

I believe the largest part of being a tutor is maintaining patience with my students. From past experience, I understand that people learn in different ways. Often, classroom teachers do not have the time to individually help each student, so I see myself as the main back-up that my students can rely upon. I will calmly explain anything they do not comprehend and will answer all questions.

I have been to many parts of the world. My father was in the Navy, so, as a child, I lived in several foreign countries. I enjoy traveling and learning about other peoples and their cultures.

I can read, speak, and write Spanish as well as I do in English and I have been very well educated in the English language.

I like to help people better themselves. I never forget those ah-hah moments when my students are able to grasp a concept that has been alluding them and their eyes light up and a beautiful smile spreads across their face.

World History

I have a master's degree in History. Although my concentration was in international crime syndicates, specifically the Mexican Drug Cartels, I also studied Asian, American, and Latin American history.

ESL/ESOL

I was an ESL teacher in the Adult Education Department of Anaheim Union High School District for 15 years. I taught evening ESL classes to adults. My students were immigrants who were working toward U.S. citizenship. Over the years, I taught all the levels the program offered, from level 0 (no English whatsoever) to level 6 (ready to take the citizenship test). I still have many of the materials I used while teaching.

Clarinet

I started playing clarinet when I was ten years old. That was over forty years ago. I played in elementary school, junior high, high school, college, and graduate school. As part of my bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, I not only was in the CSUSB (California State University at San Bernardino) band, I also took music history and theory classes.
