My name is Alex and thank you for considering me as your tutor. First, let me tell you a bit about myself. I grew up in Orange County, CA and attended Rosary High School, where I was a four year varsity softball player and involved with clubs such as CSF and NHS. During my time in high school I worked very hard not only at my academics but also in athletics and was admitted to Princeton University and invited to be a member of their varsity softball team. While at Princeton, I was a full time student athlete, and majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, eventually writing my senior thesis on the interaction of play behavior and testosterone levels in the juvenile male yellow baboon, and how play behavior as a juvenile can predict adult milestones.
Princeton is an institution that challenges its students and with that I learned not only how to manage a large course load and prioritize, but also, how to embrace subjects I never excelled in before. I believe time management is crucial in excelling in school, and it is something I learned through experience. My tutoring experience is mostly with peer tutoring in high school and college. I think sometimes material just needs to be presented in a simpler way, and it is something I learned to teach myself throughout college. There are countless resources to use on the internet, and I love to utilize them, not only to help myself, but others to understand material.
I have been taught by many different types of teachers, and the ones I struggled with the most were the ones who were too stubborn to change the way they presented the material. And because of this, when I work with students I try to listen to their input on how they learn, because they know best what helps them to get a grasp on the material.
I played softball for 18 years all the way through the Division I level, in which I served as a team captain my senior year and trained under some of the best coaches in Southern California. During my career, I played pitcher/1B and was awarded First Team All NFCA- Mid Atlantic, Second Team All Ivy, Honorable Mention All Ivy, as well as earning team awards. I also have experience working with younger players in clinics, helping with fundamentals of softball and player development. Additionally, I have helped to advise student athletes on moving up to the collegiate level, and how to move through the recruiting environment.
