CBEST

I have taken and passed the CBEST test, one sitting, first time. The test is required in CA for all future teachers (K-12); it includes basic math, reading, and writing skills; essentially elementary level. The writing portion is two essay prompts designed to assess a person's ability to write effectively. The reading section consists of 50 multiple choice questions and is designed to assess analysis, evaluation, and comprehension. The math portion is also 50 multiple choice questions from three basic skills areas: estimation, measurement, and statistical principles; computation and problem solving; and numerical and graphic relationships.

Elementary (K-6th)

I possess a 30 day substitute credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; I am currently in a credential program to receive a multiple subject credential to teach elementary school. I spend 2-3 days a week working in a first grade classroom; I have also worked in both 2nd and 3rd grade. I have experience with lesson planning and school reading intervention programs.

Phonics

I took an 8 hour seminar in language acquisition; I have worked with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders on phonetics; I am currently in an elementary teaching credential program and have completed coursework in language acquisition and language arts, which includes phonics.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
