I graduated from Fresno State Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in English. I went on to earn 3 teaching credentials: Single Subject English for High School and Middle School teaching; Multiple Subjects for Elementary education; Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) specializing in teaching students of other cultures and languages. In my 25 years of teaching in Fresno Unified School District, I taught elementary, middle school, and high school. While in elementary, I served on the school's student study team for 5 years where, along with 4 other faculty members and administrators, evaluated at-risk, struggling students and worked on strategies along with the parents to help the child succeed. I was an ELD (English Language Development) Resource Teacher in middle school where I helped the other teachers overcome the challenges in teaching second language learners. Although I am not a special education teacher,I have had extensive training and experience in teaching students in need of alternative methods, such as the Orton-Gillingham program for reading often used for dyslexics. I have taught intervention classes aimed at helping students pass the exit exam needed for a their high school diplomas.
I have taught GATE classes, but also I believe that each and everyone of us is gifted in some way and that every person, child or adult, can be academically successful if given the right individualized instruction and is empowered with the unswerving belief that he or she can do it. Nothing is more effective that one-on-one learning. I feel privileged to be a part of that process. Teaching is my passion and calling. I doubt that will ever change.
