Hello, potential Students and/or Parents/Guardians of potential Students!

I would love an opportunity to help your or your child succeed in their homework with areas of difficulty, or to help adults learn and master the most basic business software uses, particularly Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Outlook, Windows Mail, etc.).

I'm not a teacher with a credential, but as a former California Scholarship Federation student with very high scores, a lifelong learner, and a 10+ year veteran of executive level administrative support, I believe I'm well qualified to do these things. I'm flexible, pretty easygoing, genuinely enjoy kids and love watching that light bulb come on when someone finally "gets" a concept they've struggled with. I have only tutored professionally briefly, years ago as a teacher's aide/tutor in the local school system, but have informally helped many children and adults reach these kinds of goals. I also have conducted corporate training sessions and am familiar with the needs of adult learners. I believe each person has a style of learning that works best for them, and am committed to finding out what that style is for each student, then working with that information to facilitate intellectual growth and understanding. I also believe it's very important to not only facilitate individual lessons, but to encourage and foster a genuine desire to learn. If I can make learning fun (or at least, less of a struggle) into the bargain, then we all win!

I'd love an opportunity to discuss your needs and goals - whether they are for an adult or a child - and find out if we'd be a good fit.

Sincerely,

Barbara S.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Outlook

I successfully used Microsoft Outlook both in personal and business email applications for years. I know how to use the file structure to set up folders. I'm able to set parameters and use multiple email accounts. I have never run into an issue with Outlook that I could not personally resolve.

Microsoft Windows

I've used Microsoft Windows for many years and am familiar with many versions, starting at 3.0, up to and including Vista Home Premium. Basically self taught, I am adept at configuring Windows to do what I want it to do, setting preferences, resolving issues, and troubleshooting many kinds of errors and problems. Having worked on the management team at a tech support call center for several years, I was able to avail myself of the knowledge and assistance of some of the finest technical minds in the business, and learned much from them.

Reading

I learned to read long before starting school, and found my first love - the written word! A natural born teacher, I began "tutoring" while still in grade school. In my adult years, I've taught both children and adults how to improve their ability to read and comprehend in English, and to enjoy it as well!
