Math is a universal language and I'd like to help you become fluent!

Helping students succeed is something I am very passionate about and enjoy doing. Every student is unique and learns quite differently and I appreciate the challenge that this requires. Tutors are often the only, and generally the best, way to get individualized attention in certain subject areas. Therefore, I am happy to be here to help and will not try to apply a "cookie-cutter" method to the student.

I graduated from high school as a valedictorian and took advanced math and science classes while juggling many extra curricular activities. I was actively involved in music ensembles, a member and team captain for the high school Math Team and FIRST Robotics Team, where we competed at the national level. I was also a member of the California Scholarship Federation and graduated as a lifetime member. I attended the University of Southern California and received my BS of Civil Engineering in 4 years. After college, I graduated from the Naval Officer Candidate School and commissioned as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer in the Navy. I have tutored off and on throughout the years, specifically in algebra, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry, physics, music, and computers. Most recently I have been tutoring middle school and high school math, including SAT test prep. During my college years, I also volunteered at elementary schools as a tutor to either whole classes or individuals struggling with certain subjects. While I may not have any certified teaching experience, the jobs that I've held as a civil engineer have required me to use many of these math and physics skills and often times be able to explain them to others.

I have experience working with all age groups and the most experience with tutoring math subjects. Again, I don't believe in one specific tutoring method because everyone learns in their own way. I feel it is important to nurture that and help a student find the best way to optimize their personal learning style. With this in mind, my patience continues to serve me best. I believe in hard work and that anything is within reach if you are willing to work at it.

Although mathematics is probably my best subject, and has always been my favorite, I have always succeeded in other subjects and am more than willing to tutor in them. Please contact me today if you feel like I may be able to help your student achieve their full potential. I truly look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I took Algebra as an 8th grade student and continued to use the concepts of the class thru-out my math classes both in high school and college. I have taken all three levels of college level calculus and differential equations. Math continued to be a sub-subject for me during my education in civil engineering.

Algebra 2

I took Algebra 2 as a 10th grade student in high school and continued to use the concepts of the class thru-out my math classes both in high school and college. I have taken all three levels of college level calculus and differential equations. Math continued to be a sub-subject for me during my education in civil engineering.

Geometry

I took Geometry as a 9th grade student in high school and continued to use the concepts of the class throughout my math classes both in high school and college. I have taken all three levels of college level calculus and differential equations. Math continued to be a sub-subject for me during my education in civil engineering.

SAT Math

I took the SAT's twice during high school, as well as the ACT's once. I scored in the 700s both times on the SAT math section. My math experience in high school started with geometry and ended with college level calculus. I continued with calculus in college through differential equations.

Perfect Combination of Intelligence, Patience and Kindness! — Marcelle is awesome! She is prompt, friendly, very intelligent and worked so well with my son. She helped him stay on task and focused, which is difficult because he has a tendency to daydream! She was patient and interacted in such a positive way with him that I could see on his face that he was enjoying his time with her. She also asked him questions and listened carefully to his answers and ...
