Hello, my name is Laurie and I am passionate about differentiation! I look at each student's abilities and needs, then work to get the student from where they are today to where they need to be to ensure success tomorrow.
I am able to support students in developing their reading skills in both phonics, vocabulary development and reading comprehension. I am also able to teach math for students in grades K-6 by using a variety of mathematical strategies, including teaching through the new Common Core State Standards and Singapore Math. I will work with both the student and parent to develop a plan to ensure student understanding and success.
I also enjoy teaching students with different abilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders! I hold a valid CA Education Specialist Credential for teaching students with Moderate-Severe Disabilities. I also have a Certificate in Theory, Knowledge and Practice about Autism Spectrum Disorders from San Jose State University, including working with children with Aspergers. I am familiar with the PCS and PODD forms of Augmentative and Assistive Communication, and I also use Discrete Trial Training (DTT) as a way to improve foundational vocabulary and math skills.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. I will come to your home or meet in a public space, such as a library or other learning environment.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to help your child grow and develop the skills they need to reach their greatest potential!
