Algebra 1

This is one of those classes that everyone has to take at one point or the other. I have been helping student's get excellent grades (both young and old) since I started tutoring about 6 years ago. From my experience, I’ve found many of the students seeking help in this class don’t enjoy math in general. I am, however, a firm believer that math is for everyone. The reason I enjoy helping students on this subject is that I am able to help provide one of the first enjoyable experiences they may have had with math.

Algebra 2

I have been tutoring Algebra 2 for many years now to many different students. For some, I have helped them to kick their grades up to A; for others, they needed some serious help in order to even graduate high school. Taking Algebra 2 under an umbrella program in high school, I essentially taught myself through the class and can definitely help students get a great grade in this class.

Many of the concepts are a continuation of Algebra 1, however many of my students have taken it more than once before we started meeting because the new material is more work. Some of the new subject matter deals with mathematical modeling and probabilities which I always enjoy working on with students because it gives interesting applications of math to “real world” situations.

Calculus

Not only was Calculus the subject I tutored the most during college, but it was one of my favorites. Many of the concepts in it apply to real life and are more intuitive than a lot of students believe. That being said, it can be challenging and I work hard to make it straightforward, provided extra material for extra practice as needed.

I have taken all 4 semesters of Calculus and also a partial differential equations class which deals especially with 4th semester Calculus.

Chemistry

I have completed 1st and 2nd semester of chemistry at Sonoma State University, however I can only accept students for AP High school through the first semester of college chemistry.

All of my chemistry tutees have shown a lot of improvement after we have worked together on they types of problems and concepts they are struggling with.

Differential Equations

For all applied math majors, at least 1 class in differential equations in required if not two. I have taken 2 differential equations classes, that dealt with solving homogeneous, partial differential, linear homogeneous variable coefficient, Fourier series, etc.

Physics

What can I say? I love physics. Some people hate it, but for me it just makes everything I observe around my that much more interesting. Maybe you hate it, are a little afraid or just need some guidance. I'd love to solve some problems with you.

Precalculus

Precalculus is a critical class for many majors. It does not have the star-power of a calculus class, but it is just as important and can make the difference between a C or A in Calculus. I have extensive experience and great success grade-wise working with students in this class, and work hard to have the student acquire a strong working knowledge.

SAT Math

I have been helping students out with the math section for the SAT for several years now. So far, all of them have gotten into the college or university they were hoping for even feeling very nervous about math in general. My goal is for the student to feel some confidence and achieve the highest score possible even if it means doing some remedial work.

Study Skills

Most of my students have possessed all the skills necessary to do well in their classes. All have benefited from my suggestions for better study habits. My experience in this area has come directly from my own experiences and extensive experience aiding the many students I have have helped. I have worked privately and in group settings with student's test prep, helped the student to organize all of their coursework and developed a system to keep themselves organized.

One of the most critical parts of developing good study skills is for you to learn how you learn best. If you struggle with memorization, for instance, finding a good system such as flashcards may be critical for doing well in a class. Test anxiety is a enormous challenge faced by many students; this may necessitate study for tests further in advance than normal so that you can just review as the tests gets closer. Sometimes, the subject may just be a difficult one and you will need to seek a tutor in addition to putting in extra study time.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
