Hello, I'm Vanessa! I've been tutoring with WyzAnt since 2009.
I hold a BA in English (Creative Writing) & French and an MFA in Literature & Creative Writing (Poetry) and tutor both English and French.
My background in these subjects:
French: As an undergraduate, I spent one academic year studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France, where I studied French language, history, and culture at L'université Aix-Marseille III--also known as L'université Paul Cézanne. I am also a member of Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Honor Society (SFSU chapter). I continued to pursue studies in French by taking translation and literature courses in graduate school.
I work with elementary, junior high and high school French students. Lessons can supplement a class at school, help to catch a student up with the next course in a French series or with a new school's curriculum, or work as independent, stand-alone classes. I have also assisted in a community college French course and am interested in working with adult students.
English: I am a native speaker of English and hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in English. I have studied the pedagogy of teaching English and have taught Composition & Reading (English 1A) at the junior college level in addition to assisting.
I work with junior high through adult students. I'm most interested in helping students improve writing and grammar skills.
In addition to tutoring, I work full-time as a production editor in the book publishing industry. Please feel free to contact me with copyediting and/or proofreading projects.
