I have been teaching and tutoring math since I was in college, and have been doing it professionally for the last 12 years. I tutor mostly high school and college students, but I have tutored 3rd grade thru univesity too. I enjoy math and I have many different ways to approach difficult subjects. I am NOT big on memorizing formulas, although there are a few that DO need to be memorized. I try to approach math from a logical perspective so that the formulas and functions make sense. I am especially fond of Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus (which is basically a review of all math learned to that point, plus a little Calculus thrown in), although I am most experienced with Pre-Algebra and Algebra. And of course there is Geometry, Finite Math, SAT / ACT / CBEST / GED / CSET / CSET / CLEP / TExES math preps (gosh, I like them all). Regardless of the math, my students (and their parents) tell me that I make math fun and easy to understand (even if some still profess to hate it). Give me a call, and let's set up a session, and see if we are a good fit. I have been teaching and tutoring math since I was in college, and have been doing it professionally for the last 12 years. Our daughter needed to get a passing grade on a math test to graduate HS. It was the only thing she was missing. She took the test and got a 44 and had to take it again with only 5 days to prepare because graduation was 6 days away. Steven came to our house Friday and over the weekend that preceeded the test. He was so patient with her and really helped her to understand the material. She passed with a 92. We are so grateful to Steven! No Summer School! We are surely going to be scheduling an appt for College Math soon. Awesome Tutor!
Algebra has always been an intimidating subject for me and this fear has always held me back from realizing my true potential. Thanks to Steven, I have been able to confront my fear and acquire a new level of understanding, which has transformed algebra from something scary to something fun and challenging.
I highly recommend this tutor to anyone who has trouble with math. He has a way of explaining things that just makes it easier to understand.
Mr B is a great tutor! He has a very flexible schedule. I work full time and would often have to reschedule due to my work schedule and there was never a problem. If he is running late he will always keep you posted. He is very great at his job. He is patient and if you do not get it the first time he will try and think of an alternate way of explaining things. Thanks Mr B! I passed my Math CBEST thanks to you!!
Great tutor. Makes learning very fun, easy and enjoyable! Steve is very punctual, responsible, and easy to get a hold of.
Steven B. tutored my sophomore son in pre-calculus for his finals. My son felt he had more understanding of pre-calc than he had all year! Funny and friendly. I strongly recommend Steven.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken and passed the CBEST. I have been teaching/tutoring math (elementary through Calculus) and substitute teaching (all subjects) for 12 years. I think my ability to do the math portion of the CBEST should be obvious based on subjects passed. While I rarely tutor other subjects besides math, I could. English is my first language. My father was an English and French teacher (retired) at Santa Ana College (my siblings and I learned to spell, speak and write properly). I speak three languages: French, Spanish and English which gives me a better understanding of grammar and word meanings.
