Hello students and parents, Ni Hao! My name is Theresa or you can call me Laoshi (which means teacher). Teaching foreign language is my specialty and I love to help students to succeed in the Mandarin language. I have been teaching and tutoring Mandarin in California for ten plus years. Although Mandarin is classified by CA Dept of Education as a Level IV foreign language (which means it’s the most difficult foreign language level for us to learn), I believe learning Mandarin should be engaging and fun. To this, I have created songs, chants, dance, and other creative ways to help students to master the language.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself: I was born in Taiwan where I attended the traditional Chinese education system through community college level. Later I came over to CA, graduated from CSU Fresno and started working. After my second child was born, I accepted a part-time teaching position at a local language school and began teaching Mandarin. I taught and tutored various levels of the Mandarin language classes for students from age 3 to 25. I have established solid relationships with my students and enjoyed experimenting creative ways to help them learn.
With my positive experience teaching Chinese, I continue to educate students and gain more skills in teaching. I received my Teaching credential and the Master of the Arts in Education - Digital Teaching from Azusa Pacific University. I taught Level I – IV Mandarin classes in high schools, middle school, elementary, and Kindergarten classes.
In addition to my calling and passion for teaching, I enjoy traveling with my family; we have traveled to many provinces in China and visited many countries including Israel, Europe, South America, and Antarctic. With the different traveling experiences, it’s easy for me to connect with students from a different culture, area, and living environment. My goals for tutoring are to help students to have a positive learning experience with Mandarin language and to glorify my God.
