I have a master's degree in physics, and eight years experience in education, teaching classrooms and tutoring all levels, grade school through college. I have excellent math skills, and my focus has always been on college and high school math and science. However, I've also successfully tutored other subjects such as psychology, history, and language arts.

My tutoring style is patient and goal-oriented, and I find that students benefit more from good working relationships than simple problem solving. By improving on study habits and organization as well as comprehension, students are best equipped to learn and retain information in the long term.

Tutoring has always been immensely satisfying to me, and I hope to be helpful to you in meeting your educational goals!

Chess

I've been playing chess against my father since I was a child, continuing through high school against my classmates. In my early 20's I played online at Chess.net, where I achieved an ELO rating in the 1600's. Since I've married, I kept up my skills playing by friendly games with my wife, and by reading books on chess strategy.

The Perfect Tutor! — Our son was really struggling in Algebra and school in general, but with Mark's discernment, flexibility and patience, our son has made amazing progress. He doesn't learn like most students and on top of this difficulty, if he doesn't connect on a relational level with his teachers/tutors he "stops listening". But Mark didn't give up on him. He found his strengths and with much encouragement an ...
