My name is Kristyna, and I have a passion for English and History. I am currently in my last semester at SFSU studying creative writing and history.
I've been working for a professional tutoring center in the city for almost a year now, and I have discovered that I love working with kids. I have worked with kids from ages 4 to 17, and I structure my techniques according to each student's needs. For example, with younger kids, I have noticed that teaching an idea such as pronouns or prepositions followed by incorporating it into a game encourages the students to pay attention and put into action what they have learned.
With older students, I have found it is incredibly important to not belittle or lose patience with them. Find what they are interested in and incorporate that into the lesson. For example, I have taught rhyme scheme, theme, and plot through using pop song lyrics. I have a passion for writing in particular and have taught how to change prompts into outlines.
As far as history goes, I have always been fascinated by it and love to share my passion with others. I know the subject can be dull, but I try to approach it by establishing that it has already happened, therefore it is a subject mostly based in remembering facts, which in turn can remembered through stories.
I like to establish a relationship with my students. I have found the best learning environment is one where they feel 100% comfortable and therefore are more open to what I have to teach to them.
Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to hearing from you!!
I've been studying history for my entire educational career. I've taken multiple American history classes in both high school and college and am well versed in the facts. I find study guides and flashcards are best for this subject.
At the tutoring center I have worked at for the past year, I tutor kids from elementary school to high school in english, grammar, and basic reading skills. Specifically, I work with groups of around eight fourth and fifth graders and one-on-one with k-3rd graders. I structure lessons in a specific interactive way that both holds the students' attention and teaches them new information, such as games and verbal activities. In certain instances, I have helped them with elementary level math as well.
This subject is my major, so it is fair to say I've taken countless classes on it. I am passionate about it and share that passion with my students. I find the best way to help in this subject is to identify a strength and incorporate learning a weakness through practicing the strength.
I am adequate with memory and reading maps, which is what I feel this subject entails. Flashcards are best in this area.
I took this class as a Senior in high school and passed the AP exam with a 4, so I am confident in this area. This area requires a mixture of facts and comprehensive understanding of how the legal system works.
This is a subject area I have been working with at the professional tutoring center that I work at. I incorporate grammar into games and writing in order to provide an in depth understanding for the student.
I enjoy reading and am a firm believer that everyone will if they find the right kind of book. I've read a lot of the classics and contemporary works and can provide helpful outlines and examples of literary essays.
As a Creative Writing major, proofreading is essential to my work. I am used to reading over several drafts, looking for grammar mistakes and argument consistency. I encourage and teach my students to do the same.
As a fan of literature and a student of many such courses, I feel confident in my ability to teach students to identify key elements of a passage or work, such as argument and purpose.
As in grammar and spelling, maintaining a wide vocabulary is highly beneficial to all students. It will aid them in conversations and in writing. I encourage my students to learn new words and use them in everyday conversation to understand their meaning.
As a Creative Writing major and a professional tutor, teaching writing is both a joy and a passion of mine. I believe that every person should be able to craft words in a way that is both intelligent and understandable and I work with my students to reach this goal.
WOW! — Kristyna is the best. She was very patient with my son. Also, she was very accommodating. I called her in need of desperate help with a "Next Day" assignment and she came through. They were able to have a complete essay in one session. ...
