I have extensive experience in teaching English
at all levels, but more importantly I have a passion for teaching. I have a lifetime California secondary credential in English and Psychology
. I have a Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
I have several strengths in teaching, but I will concentrate on three. First of all, I am a results oriented instructor. I do not like just going through the motions. It is important to me that each and every student make progress according to his ability. Secondly, I push students to excel
within their abilities. Lastly, I have a wide range of experience--I have taught at the college and high school levels. I have worked with a variety of students from AP students to English Learners.
Test Prep is one of my fortes. I have taught AP English Language
and AP English Literature
with an 80% passing rate (average passing rate is 60%) . I have taught rhetoric in AP Language and close reading
in AP Literature
—both are essential skills for success in this competitive world. I have also worked on SAT
and CAHSEE prep. I have experience with helping English Learners to succeed in AP English classes.
I have worked with English Learners for 30 years. I have taught ESL
at Palomar College and La Costa Canyon High School. The key to teaching second language students is to work in all areas: reading, writing
, speaking and listening.
I am drawn to teaching because it benefits both teacher and student. There is a quote from Joseph Joubert “To teach is to learn twice.” My learning from teaching is immeasurable.
