My name is Alison, and I am a freshman studying Biology at Duke University who just graduated Torrey Pines High School this June.
During my high-school academic year, I have received straight As in every course I've taken and an overall GPA of 4.8. Moreover, I have taken college-level classes such as AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP English, AP Psychology, and AP Chemistry. I am more than familiar with topics involving math and science and have a firm understanding of the work quality that teachers expect from their students.
As a current student, I believe that the "recipe" for success in a course includes good work ethic, good time-management, and a willingness to study. As a tutor, I will not only teach your child the material he/she needs to know, but also provide tips on how to study and prepare for exams.
Outside of school, I've worked with the Gateways Summer School to teach first and second grade children the basics of biology and anatomy ('11), as well as music theory ('12). I've also volunteered as a classroom aide for elementary science camps at the Reuben H. Science Center and participated in an after school tutoring program called Study Buddies, which offers help for K-6 grade children.
Given my experience with young children and my academic record, I am most comfortable working with students from K-8. My schedule is very flexible, and I am available to provide not only homework help but also conduct lessons to help your child understand material ahead of his/her grade level.
I look forward to hearing from you!
