So you would like to start studying German? Or do you already speak some German and want to practice? Need a tutor before an exam or a crash course before a business trip? Are you the traveler who would like to be able to talk and understand more during your next journey around Europe?
My name is Wiebke. I grew up in Northern Germany and studied pharmacy for five years at the Martin Luther University in Halle. Then I worked as a pharmacist in Berlin until I moved to San Diego in 2003. My favorite part of my job was developing good, long relationships with our very diverse customers from all corners of the world.
That's the same with tutoring - I enjoy meeting people with different backgrounds, getting to know them and helping them to acquire a solid knowledge of German language and culture. In addition to a good, honest student-teacher relationship it is very important for me to find the right teaching style for every student - to see my students look forward to fun and efficient lessons. Working in small groups is very efficient because of the interaction between the students. Although of course I'm open to giving lessons once a week, I'd like to see my students at least twice a week to give them the chance to practice enough and to start feeling more secure and comfortable using the foreign language.
My favorites: Our family of four (I have 2 teenaged children who are completely bilingual), outdoor activities, linguistics (apart from German and English I speak Russian and Spanish, working on my fluency), literature, movies...
