I have been a student of American History since the time I traveled as a child with my family to the Atlantic States. I have an increasing curiosity about all aspects of American History.
It has been a large part of my success in teaching American Government and Geography and other social sciences at the college level these many years. I work to make my approach towards history contagious and active. There is so much to learn and so much to teach... It is a fascinating subject.
European History has been at the root of most if not all of my studies in History, International Relations and Geography. I have been a student of European affairs since I was young. Understanding the history of Europe opens doors to understanding much of the world's history.
I hold a BA in Geography. I have been teaching college level geography for over 20 years. I have taught World Regional Geography, Introduction to Physical Geography with Lab, and Cultural Geography as well as many internationally oriented political science courses. In addition, I have conducted field studies, been mountaineering for many years and was an orienteering graduate in the Army. I love the subject almost as much as I love to teach!
Government & Politics
I have been an instructor in political science and geography for over 20 years. My methodology revolves around a very knowledge-based and balanced approach in studying and teaching some of the most important topics of our time. I have been selected for several awards in education, training and development as well as having received nominations for several others. I don't teach students what to think, I teach them how to get to a point of understanding in government and politics so that they can form their own informed positions and opinions.
I earned a Black Belt after 4+ years of training in International Kenpo Karate/Ju-Jitsu, 2008. I have taught all levels at International Black Belt Academy (IBBA) from 11/2006 to 6/2010. I have also taught a college level PE course (PED 146) in Martial Arts at Front Range Community College, Fort Collins, CO 2010-2012.
I have used Excel for many tasks. I have also trained others on the functions and uses of the application. It is a great program!
I have used in both home and professional versions for over 10 years. I have conducted informal training for colleagues for many years
For may years now, I have been a regular user of PowerPoint. It has served me well in academic, business and personal projects. It is a program that truly shines as a projector of ideas and learning. PowerPoint can make even the dullest of subjects come to life!
I trained Windows and Windows applications for Synnex Corporation for many years. I have effectively used Windows OS for over 15 years.
I have written hundreds of documents in MS Word: advertising brochures, business articles, scholarly research and personal essays and correspondence. It is a great tool with enormous variety in presentation style for documents. I would be lost without Word!
I have been an instructor for 20+ years. Also, I have worked as a tutor for students with special needs for some time. With many of my students, I have spent one on one time developing stronger tools for study and retention. I focus on reading comprehension, note taking, active listening, and application of focus and relaxation techniques to eliminate barriers to retention. Also, I have written some articles regarding learning and training theory.
My academic focus has been on global politics for many years. In that time I have applied multiple historical principles, examples and other components of World History. I am always learning more. My MA as well as my minor in my BA program in International Relations required a strong focus on History and the application of concepts.
