If you select this option, WyzAnt will ask interested tutors to contact you by email if they are able to help. A maximum of five different tutors will email you and none of your personal information, including your email address, will be released.

SPECIAL NOTE: My current rate of $45/hour is flexible based upon the needs of each student. If a student is currently receiving SSI or SSDI, then I will reduce my fee considerably.

If you are interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL), please allow me to help you develop this fun and practical communication skill. My background consists of having an M.S. degree in Rehab Counseling with an emphasis in Deafness Rehab. I am well-known in the community as a strong advocate for persons with disabilities. I have experience in working as a deaf interpreter along with being an ASL instructor.

I am willing to travel anywhere in San Diego County to meet you at a convenient location. One of the services I offer at no cost is to accompany you at various Deaf Cultural/Social events. The best way to practice is to interact with the native "speakers". My cancellation policy is consistent with Wyzant's recommendations. Any cancellation by a student within 24 hours or less will be billed at half rate. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have been a professional Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor offering career counseling to individuals with disabilities of all ages for about 20 years. I earned my M.S. Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis in Deafness Rehab in 1992 from San Diego State University. I am currently employed by Project Independence as the Community Work Incentives Coordinator for all of San Diego and Imperial Counties. I am a Certified Benefits Planner through the Social Security Administration qualified to offer career counseling to individuals receiving disability benefits who are either currently employed or considering employment.

Sign Language

I have been fluent in American Sign Language for almost 25 years. I successfully completed 2 years of ASL courses at San Diego Mesa College and one year of Interpreter training. I earned my M.S. degree in Rehab Counseling with an emphasis in Deafness Rehab and have utilized my ASL skill through my work history. I have worked as a Deaf Interpreter and as an ASL Instructor for staff of Arc-San Diego. I attend Deaf Cultural/Social events on a regular basis and utilize this language skill with my current Deaf clients.
