Experienced Native Chinese-Cantonese & Mandarin Tutor: Mew-Kay

My name is Mew-Kay in Cantonese, but many prefer to call me Ms. C or Miyoki.

I am a native speaker of Chinese, both Cantonese and Mandarin. I received my BA in Chinese from UC Santa Barbara and have studied abroad in Beijing, China, for 1 year. I have taken courses such as Chinese Pedagogy (teaching), Phonetics, TEFL, and Chinese Linguistics. Lastly, I also have a sociocultural linguistics minor.

My experience includes more than 5 years of tutoring experience. In the past I have taught Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Math to students between ages 4-25. I have a strong passion for language teaching and try my best to incorporate fun and cultural activities into my lesson plans. I have hosted Mah Jong and Calligraphy workshops for adult language learners in local libraries as well.

Swimming

I used to be afraid of water and have drowned more than 3 times. I overcame my fear and took swimming class in college and have swam since then. I know the crawl stroke (free style), breast stroke and back stroke. I can also train student how to tread water and stay afloat. Chinese

I taught over 3 years of Cantonese to adult learners of all levels. I have previous tutoring experience in beginner and intermediate Chinese. I have taken courses in Chinese linguistics, phonetics and language acquisition.

Business

I have taken courses in Marketing, Organizational Management, Business Law, Small Business Management and Business Communications. I did 4 months of marketing work overseas in Beijing for a start up company and I currently work for a corporation doing marketing and advertisement work. I handle inventory management, marketing strategies, event coordination and logistics. I believe I have the theoretical as well as practical skill set for this field.

Photography

I volunteered for a nonprofit for 3 months and offered basic photography training to two girls. They found the subject interesting and my lessons straight forward and easy to follow.
