Welcome! My name is Mike and I am currently a 7th and 8th grade history teacher. I am constantly improving my teaching practice through professional development. I began tutoring as a high school student and have tutored consistently at some capacity since 1999 around the US and world. I am also available to tutor right now.
My international education experiences, teaching, tutoring, and training teachers, has broadened my horizons to best practices in the areas of teaching and tutoring, which I continually refine today through reflective practice.
My tutoring style is dynamic and fun; rooted in the interests and experiences of my students, as well as current events. My tutoring methods are individualized and depend on each student I am working with, however, I draw from a variety of theories and best practices. Regarding curriculum, I have myriad sources in the areas I teach, however, base the sources used on the learning needs and goals defined by my student. With regards to instruction, I vary my tactics based on a student's particular interests, experiences, and learning intelligences; this also means that I like to build a healthy rapport with my students, so that we can communicate what is working well and what could be better. Lastly, I encourage student self-reflection, just as I reflect on my own tutoring/teaching practice. This will allow us both to grow and reach the student's goals.
I look forward to hearing from parents of non-adult students, as well as adult students themselves. Together we can make history, Spanish, or Portuguese more fun, while reaching your own goals!
Kind Regards,
Mike
