I majored in music and English for 3 years at Morehead state College in Kentucky.I earned a BA with a concentration in Language Arts (English Literature, Journalism, Drama, and a foreign language) and a certificate to teach in secondary schools at Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia. I taught music English and French in West Virginia public schools for ten years during which I was a Special Forces Medic in the U.S. Army Reserve.
I then spent 20 years as a flute and saxophone player in U.S. Navy fleet bands. After the navy I earned a Master's Degree in the Theory and Practice of Writing at Utah State University where I taught nearly all of the writing classes and several literature classes (Women in Literature, Science Fiction, and World Literature) as a graduate instructor and later as a lecturer.
Then for 14 years I taught Writing (college, argumentative, research, fiction, business and technical writing and poetry and Literature) at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon and Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. For 7 years I have evaluated AP (College Advanced Placement) writing exams for Educational Testing Services. I am now semi-retired and can use my knowledge to help others learn.
