What makes me successful with children is the repore I build with them. Children have always enjoyed spending time with me because I listen to them, connect with them on their levels, and make learning fun. When children enjoy the learning and know their teacher believes in their success, true learning happens. I use a variety of teaching strategies depending on the learning style of each child. Many children are visual and hands-on learners. Therefore, I use lots of manipulatives, visuals, and real life situations to help make connections. I also find out what concepts are going to be taught at school ahead of time so I am able to find materials, manipulatives, and study aids that would be most useful.
I enjoy working with one or two children at a time because I can get to know them, their strengths and weaknesses, and how best to reach them in a very short time. Seeing a child progess and be successful is very rewarding for me.
I have been tutoring privately for five years. I've tutored students from grades 1-7 in all subject areas. In several cases, parents have requested that I tutor all subjects according to need at the time: studying for an upcoming test, help with a major project, or getting caught up after several days of absence.
