To me, learning is really about adapting effective learning strategies. These strategies must be based on each student's individual style. Then, learning issues can be clarified, evaluated, and resolved. This allows learning to be a fascinating, mind blowing, and interesting experience. Intellectual growth, in essence, is based on:
2) creative simplicity
3) logical steps and leaps.
My subjects of proficiency are English, writing, algebra I, geometry, geology, basic math, Spanish, and German.
I started tutoring 6th graders in high school at the local Hispanic Community Center in elementary math and reading. Then, during undergraduate college, I continued as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for college Biology for 2 years. From this experience I learned to adapt my instruction methods to best suit the learning style of the students.
After completing an undergraduate Bachelor's of Science degree with major in Anthropology, and chemistry minors (3.84 GPA), I continued teaching during my graduate school years. I assisted in problem based learning sessions for high school students and also tutored freelance conversational Spanish. Later, after finishing my graduate coursework in 2009, I began tutoring high school students and high school graduates in algebra, English, biology, and SAT prep. I currently private tutor for a few students in the San Gabriel valley area.
