TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
Parallel to my architectural practice I started teaching in 1991 after graduating at NED University of Engineering and Technology [Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET)], as a Teaching Assistant for First year Design Studio with Dr Sumer Gurel – Professor MIT Chair and my thesis advisor for two years. After the completion of his tenure I continued as a Visiting Faculty-In-charge for First Year Design Studio for another four years. After my return from MIT I continued with my teaching passion along with my growing practice as a part time Visiting Faculty for third and fourth year Design Studio and as an Advisor for final year thesis.

All through my teaching career I have focused on four key issues. First and foremost free hand sketching I believe without sketching skills one cannot visualize and realize ideas. The coordination of thought process and drawing is a primary tool of design. Second, students are encouraged and enabled to have independent and freethinking in order to develop new ideas. Third, students are required to do research and case studies before embarking on the assignment to understand and learn from good practices done earlier. Last, the study of materials, technology and construction detailing to understand how an idea can be translated into reality. Based on above-mentioned principles I develop my program starting with an abstract assignment leading to a major assignment. In between few brainteaser are given to retain their interest and motivated. This also helps in cracking the designer block.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Architecture

I have taught as a lecturer, thesis advisor and jury member for design presentations / critiques.
Parallel to my architectural practice, I started teaching in 1991 as a teaching assistant. In 1993, I was appointed as a design studio instructor for first year design studio, a position that I held for four years. After I returned from MIT and along with my growing practice, I continued teaching, as a part-time visiting faculty for third and fourth year design studio, and as an advisor for final year thesis project.
