I'm Bill. Languages, other cultures, fine art and music are my passions. I love teaching and tutoring English, art, and architecture. If students are interested in music, I love to incorporate music and songs into language and art lessons. As a child, I was lucky to have a father who loved travel and adventure. I have lived in Ethiopia, Mexico, and Japan.
After training at UCLA, I taught English in Taiwan for two years. I have over twenty years of experience teaching junior high school and tutoring students of all ages. Currently I teach art and yearbook at a local junior high with a large Chinese and Korean population. I speak Mandarin.
Successful language learning requires listening training, oral language practice, and vocabulary development, in that order. Students choose topics that interest them and develop vocabulary in these topics by reading books, magazines, or by watching movies.
A student may wish to study grammar as a separate subject, but normally I emphasize conversation and focus on issues of grammar as they appear in conversation or reading.
