I have been teaching high school math for 9 years, and I am authorized to teach mathematics through Calculus. I have taught Algebra 2, Geometry, Algebra, Prealgebra, and Consumer Mathematics. I received my Masters degree in Mathematics at California State University Fullerton in May. I have tutored math since I was in high school. I believe that students learn math best by finding their own solutions. I consider that guiding the student to their own solution, via questioning, is the most effective form of tutoring, as it allows the student to think, reason, and explore as they solve problems. This helps the student to develop confidence and to mature as a learner. It guides them toward asking themselves questions as they work. This, in turn, helps them to become independent learners. I am a patient and understanding tutor, and I can help students refresh previous topics to assist in current coursework.

I am also a capable science tutor. My Bachelor's degree is in Biology, with a strong Chemistry minor. As a teaching assistant, I taught Chemistry laboratory courses. My undergraduate major included three semesters of Physics.

My state teaching credential authorizes me to teach high school mathematics through calculus. I have tutored students in calculus since I was in college. In addition, I recently completed my Master of Arts in Mathematics, so I have used the skills recently. Geometry

I teach high school Geometry and have tutored it at the high school and college levels.

Trigonometry

I have tutored trigonometry for several years. Trigonometry builds upon foundations from both Algebra 2 and Geometry. I help struggling trig students by reinforcing the earlier foundational material on which current topics build. In addition, I help students prepare for later courses, by identifying the important topics on which future mathematics depends.

Business

I worked in industry for 28 years, including operating my own business for 18 years. I am familiar with all aspects of business operations, including, hiring & firing (human resources), purchasing, accounts payable, sales, accounts receivable, payroll, basic accounting functions, finance, production, transportation and shipping and receiving. I am also well versed in a variety of computer applications widely used in business.

CBEST

As a credential secondary teacher in California, I am familiar with, have taken, and passed the CBEST exam. I also tutor test preparation for a variety of other tests. Testing techniques are mostly transferable from one test to another.

Praxis

As a credentialed secondary mathematics teacher, I have prepared for, taken and passed the California equivalent of the Praxis exams, the CSET examinations in Mathematics. In addition, I have assisted several prospective math teachers in preparing for and passing these exams. Since I have received my MA in Mathematics, and my teaching credential, I am familiar with a wide variety of upper level mathematics and I am capable of teaching this material to others.
