Tutoring for Students Pre-K through Fourth Grades

Hi! I'm Mrs. M. I welcome the opportunity to help your child. I became a teacher because I want to see children succeed in school and in life! I've taught elementary school for about 14 years now. I taught kindergarten and first grade for most of those years. I also was a substitute teacher for grades K-12. I tutored at Sylvan Learning when my children were very young.

I believe that I have the ability to help children understand concepts better. While they are learning from me, they are having fun! I will provide them with educational games and activities to enhance what they have learned. I also have an Ipad with educational apps, that I will use with the students, to practice the skills and concepts that they may have trouble understanding.

I am available during the school day between 8:30 am to 2pm and/or after school hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30.

Reading

I am a credentialed teacher. Reading is my favorite subject to teach. I'm an avid reader with great comprehension skills and an extensive knowledge of vocabulary. I encourage students to read as much as they can and anything they can! I am certified to tutor in Reading, and did well on the exam required by WyzAnt in order to tutor this subject.

Writing

I believe that I am a good writer because I am a great reader! Great writing takes time and patience, both of which I have. It takes creativity and building on what you know and what you have experienced. It is a process that must be taught with structure, which I know I can pass on to students. I am certified to teach writing, as I passed the writing exam that WyzAnt required us to take.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a multiple subject credential with CLAD earned from California State University at Long Beach in June 2008.

Phonics

I have taught from the Open Court phonic program and know it well. I've also taught Kindergarten and first grade full-time, so I know how to teach phonics.

Study Skills

I feel that I have very good study skills, which I have acquired over the years as a student and teacher. I have also taken college courses on study skills. I taught study skills while I was a tutor at Sylvan Learning. I taught SAT prep classes while there.
