For nearly 20 years, I've been educating students. I started as a substitute teacher in Compton Unified before moving on to Torrance and eventually to Centinela Valley Unified High School District near LAX. In that time, I've taught different grade levels in various subjects. Eventually, I became a full-time special education teacher at CVUHSD.
I've been teaching in the district for more than 11 years, and have covered the following topics: RSP English, History, and government/economics; reading intervention, and general ed. English. Also, I worked as an afterschool tutor and homeschool teacher for the district.
Before I entered the teaching profession, I had a short career as a journalist. I was an intern reporter for Costa Mesa's Daily Pilot, a stringer for Gardena Valley News, and a freelance writer for various publications.
I still freelance on occasion. This time, it's for Internet publications such as Helium.com or Wikinut.com. I feel that being involved in this particular profession is important. It can enhance my lessons and serve as a model for students who struggle with writing.
My goal is to help as many students possible with reading and writing. Also, I'd like to help in other fields such as social studies. Education is an important gift to give the younger generation. Without it they couldn't function well in society or develop a healthy curiosity about the world around them.
